Seamless Lives of Faith | Romans 12:1-2

Joseph Sosa ‘25

“That they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”

This past weekend was the High School Breakaway retreat, for which we went away to Rockbridge, VA over the long weekend. It was a hectic but great experience, for students and leaders alike! I had the shocking privilege of acting in the high school skits, and attempting to be the photographer for TFCA. It was ‘shocking’ because there were many moments of self-reflection as I taped on a fake mustache backstage dressing room. And it was a ‘privilege’ because, although it was at times embarrassing, I understood it was a service. Now, when I rededicated my entire life to following God no matter what that meant, this is not exactly what I had in mind!

But I remember being a bit frustrated while at the retreat. Due to the jobs I was doing, I was not present for the talks or the worship sessions. Once I made it home, I talked about all the highs and lows of the weekend with my host mother. After sharing my frustration with my lack of worship and contemplation, in her wisdom she observed, “well, that is worship.”

The experience was draining. Doing two jobs, however wacky and improvisational they were, was challenging. In the week following, I’ve slept in every day as my body resets in preparation for the middle school retreat. All to His glory, and I eagerly await that next retreat in two weeks!
